What happens in an Initial Appointment?
Unless you have a family member or friend who has hearing aids, the field of Audiology is often unfamiliar.
Don’t worry, you are not alone!
In fact one of the our main roles as audiologists is to educate our clients on what we can do and how we can help.
A passion of Andrew’s, our founder and principal audiologist is helping his clients to better understanding hearing, the connection between the ear and the brain and hearing loss. In an initial appointment he will also vehemently discuss ways to obtain the best results from hearing aids, if they recommended as part of hearing loss treatment.
His goal is to empower his clients so they can make better informed choices about their hearing health.
What type of appointment should I choose?
We have a number of appointment options available to identify if you have a hearing loss and whether or not hearing aids may be of benefit.
The best option, if you are not sure if you have a hearing loss or have been told you need a hearing test, is to book in for a First Time Hearing Evaluation (Link). Our audiologists take you step-by-step through the process and you gain an understanding about how hearing works and how we test for hearing loss.
Your hearing is then tested, in a number of ways to ensure accurate results. Throughout the process your audiologist will explain the audiogram, the graph that is used to measure your hearing as well as your results.
If your hearing loss is at a level where it is considered significant your practitioner will recommend hearing aids and walk you through their features. They will present a number of options to suit your lifestyle and needs.
What if I already have hearing aids?
If you already have hearing aids you can book in for a Hearing Aid Adjustment/Second Opinion Consultation at any of our Brisbane or Melbourne locations. In this session your audiologist will discuss your current devices as well as gain a thorough understanding about your hearing health and lifestyle.
From here your audiologist will perform a hearing test. Then either make adjustments or recommendations around your current hearing aids or recommend a different solution that will better suit your needs.
According to Hearing Aid Research
The average person waits 7 – 10 years to treat their hearing loss. We know that this is 7 – 10 years too long for a variety of reasons, including a connection between hearing loss and an increased risk of dementia. (link)
We are thrilled to be able to offer a second location in Melbourne to make it even easier to access treatment for hearing loss and provide you with information and support to help you live life without unnecessary limitation.
